1971 Plymouth Duster 340, Auto, Nicely Restored, White, Documented
Offered today is this 1971 Plymouth Duster 340 V/8 with automatic trans. This great car was restored approx. 3 years ago and still looks like the day it was completed. The mileage is documented at only 73,114 miles since new. VIN # is VL29G1B292827.
This car started its life as a factory 318 car (not originally a 340 car) with auto trans, air conditioning, power steering and manual drum brakes (VL29G1B). It is now powered by a 1970 340 V/8 motor. The motor was completely rebuilt and is a very strong runner with 9.5:1 compression with a Mopar hydraulic purple shaft cam (284 duration/484″lift). The 340 heads were also reworked and hardened valve seats were installed. It is topped off with a factory 340 intake manifold and a new 600 CFM carb with electric choke. This very impressive 340 runs extremely well and can be driven anywhere on pump gas.
The car has the factory exhaust manifolds and air cleaner. The ignition has been upgraded to electronic ignition, (this helps keep it running better and hassle free.) The excellent shifting transmission is the original numbers matching 904. It has a 8 3/4 rear end with 3:55 posi gears. The rear end housing was sand blasted and painted gloss black. The exhaust system sounds great thanks to the newer FlowMasters and the crossover H-pipe that were installed. The factory style chrome exhaust tips finish things off well.
This awesome Duster handles excellently thanks to the many new or newer parts on the front suspension.
The interior was also replaced and still is in excellent condition. The seats were all recovered, the headliner was also replaced, as well as the carpeting. The dash pad is in great shape with no cracks at all. Even the trunk has been detailed and refinished. It still has all its original sheet metal on the trunk floor as well as the original trunk mat. The spare tire and jack are also in excellent shape and detailed very well.
The paint and body work were professionally done and look great!! It was wet sanded and buffed with 2000 grit wet sand paper, then buffed to a high gloss shine. The body work that was done to the car is also very nice & straight – all the panels still fit and line up nicely. There are only a couple of small chips on the front of the car from being driven the last 3 years. The glass on this car is still in great shape, no fogging and no cracking.
The chrome on this car is near perfect. The bumpers are excellent and the mirrors are also in great shape – no pitting etc. Additional 340 upgrades for this car include:
– Immaculate sharks tooth grill
– 340 hood scoops
– 340 black stripes
– Rear wing (refinished in satin black)
The Centerline wheels and newer BF Goodrich tires help make a nice statement for this strong running car. The fronts are
185/70 R14 and the rears are 245/60 R14.
The overall vehicle condition is very nice. You will not be disappointed with this incredibly clean, rust free Duster. It is truly a perfect all-purpose car that can be driven anywhere and still stop in at the local shows and take home a trophy at the end of the day.
It’s also perfect for the cruise nights that have become so popular over the past several years. This Duster has been stored in a climate controlled garage by the last two owners and is currently stored the same way.
As a little bonus on this Duster, the seller will include the original owners manual and the original consumer info page that came new with the car. He also has several receipts for the parts and labor that went into this car. Also avalible with this car is the original Chrysler Corporation Warranty & Limitation of Liability info card with the original owners name filled out. Last but not least, you get an original 1971 Plymouth sales brochure.
This Duster was purchased new in Albuquerque, New Mexico on 4/19/1971. As you can see, the car is very documented and is certainly a beautiful show piece.
In Summary |
This car represents a ton of muscle car for not much money. It has been beautifully restored and tastefully built. No disappointments here!
Vehicle Condition – – I have not personally inspected or photographed this vehicle. I am relying on the pictures and descriptions provided by the seller. I can however tell that this Duster is in excellent condition and is being offered at a very reasonable price. Don’t sit around and think about this one for too long or it will be gone.
We all watched clones or recreations sell for big money at Barrett Jackson this year. People are happy to pay big money for nicely done cars. It’s a great way to get a major muscle car appeal for very reasonable money. This car clearly represents a great buying opportunity.
I invite and encourage any interested party to inspect this car in West Suburban Chicago (about 40 minutes from O’hare Airport) and determine for yourself that this car is truly in excellent condition. Seeing is really believing.

Private Auction |
A few words about switching to “Private Auctions” on Ebay – I have decided to run only private auctions based on Ebay’s recommendation simply because of the scammers and thieves who are preying on my bidders. These slimy scammers have targeted my auctions and have sent out bogus “second chance offers” to my bidders and recently one of my bidders even sent these lying thieves $7000.
As a way to protect you the bidder, I am now only going to run private auctions so that your identity will be protected. I apologize for this development but unfortunately, we have only these low life slimeballs to thank (sorry for my bold language).
